THE TRABACCHE CATACOMB

Inspector Montalbano, in the episode "The Terracotta Dog", found inside the cave, the bodies of two young lovers murdered, watched by a clay dog, standing next to a bowl of coins.

The "Cave of Trabacche", or rather the Catacomb Trabacche, was reported for the first time, at the end of the eighteenth century, the famous French traveler and painter J. Houel. The cave, which is located in South West of Ragusa, is actually a significant sign of funerary architecture of likely late Roman era, which could date back to the fourth century d.c.
